How are fast-as-metal LXC VPSes faster than other kinds of VPSes?
LXC VPSes are faster than other kinds of VPSes
because LXC VPSes run directly
on the same kernel and on the same hardware
actually powering the bare metal host machine.
KVM and other slower VPSes require an additional, complex,
intermediate software layer
to emulate all the hardware of the virtual machine.
KVM and other slower VPSes must run on top of their complex,
intermediate software emulation layer
insead of directly on the kernel
and the hardware of the host machine.
When must a slower kind of VPS be used?
A slower kind of VPS like KVM must be used when
(a) a special kernel is required or
(b) when privileged operations
withheld from LXC VPSes for safety reasons
